At kilometer 210, we will divert from the sealed road and venture onto a little used gravel road which has very little traffic and wonderful views in every directions.

At some point on this 80km gravel section, we’ll stop for a lunch box lunch beside one of the beautiful Andean lakes and before continuing on to Puno.

Located on the shores of Lake Titicaca; Puno was founded in 1666 by the Spaniards. The Titicaca Lake is one of the most beautiful and mysterious lakes in South America. Its waters are home to an indigenous population who still live by many of the traditions of the Inca Empire.

Puno - Mazuko

It’s not often that you’ll ride from the highest navigable lake in the world straight into the Amazon basin all in the same day! Today’s ride will be one of the most dramatic transitions your ever encounter.  As we leave Puno, the bustling city will give way to grassy planes with llamas and Alpacas grazing on the roads edge.  In a short while we’ll start climbing and the terrain will begin to give way to rocky outcrops , which will turn into  snow dusted mountains.  What started out as a straight road just an hour earlier is now a series of endless tight switchbacks which is every riders dream.  The scenery is both dramatic and beautiful, and something that you’ll surely remember for years to come.  As we cross the summit and descend towards the Amazon basin, the air get thicker , temperature begin to rise, while harsh rocky valleys turn into lush green mountains with powerful waterfalls.

Day 10

Cusco - Free Day

Today is a day off to walk around Cuzco.
We recommend you to visit the Santo Domingo Convent - Korikancha, this was one of Cuzco's most important religious places. The Cathedral located in the City Square is also a high recommended visit. This cathedral with its renaissance exterior and baroque interior has one of the most outstanding collections of colonial silverware. Equally important are its carved wood altars and the painting on fabrics of the local artists of that time.
Cuzco is also one of the best destinations to do shopping; just around the City square you will find the best shops for local designs.
